Mother’s Day – Anna Jarvis

This Blue Sign is a bit difficult to see in this picture.  It resides outside of City Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  It is a tribute to Mother’s Day and Anna Jarvis.

Anna Jarvis’ founded Mother’s Day in the US in honor of her Mother Ann.  Ann had worked to help improve conditions for Mothers in 5 cities over her lifetime.

In 1914 Anna saw the memorial to her Mother and all Mothers become a national holiday.  Anna died in West Chester, Pennsylvania in 1948.  She had no children and never married.
